IN THIS LESSON
Let's get started with our watercolor layer! For this part of the lesson, you'll need:
Your two, previous marked-up pages (with the oil pastel & crayon marks from Lesson 1)
Distress Stain daubers (or watercolor & brush)
A partner (or just go back and forth between the two pages on your own)
Timer (use an app on your phone or set an alarm)
Set your timer for 5 minutes and start to play with the watercolors/Distress Stain daubers. Look for areas that you can add contrasting or opposite colors. For example, add warm colors over cool or cool colors over warm.
Opposites on the color wheel:
Red/Green
Blue/Orange
Yellow/Purple
Warm colors:
Red/Orange/Yellow
Cool colors:
Blue/Green/Purple
Using opposite colors gives you more visual interest and contrast. When you are adding your watercolor layer, try to keep the watercolors from touching each other, or you will create more muddy/muted colors.
When the timer sounds at 5 minutes, stop the watercolor layer and go to the next video! Try to stick to the 5-minute rule. This will help you not get so attached to each layer as you build them. You will also need to let this wet layer dry completely before you add the next layer.
