IN THIS LESSON
Let's get started with mark-making! For this part of the lesson, you'll need:
Mixed Media paper (2 pieces)
A partner (or just go back and forth between the two pages on your own)
Timer (use an app on your phone or set an alarm)
Oil pastels
Neon crayons
Stabilo Woody 3-in-1 pencils
Set your timer for 5 minutes and start to scribble and play with the pastels, crayons, and pencils. You and your partner can sit across from each other and take turns randomly marking on the two different pages. Try to go back and forth between the two pages. If you don't have a partner, that's ok--just jump back and forth between the two pages as you go.
Don't think too much at this point. A lot of the marks in this layer will be covered up by the end! This is your time to relax, let loose, and enjoy the moment. Try to invoke your senses by picking your favorite colors. Play with contrasting colors, vary your marks, and try to be as child-like as you can. Put on some relaxing music in the background if you'd like. Do whatever you can to make this process feel light and enjoyable.
When the timer sounds at 5 minutes, stop the mark-making and go to the next video! Try to stick to the 5-minute rule. This will help you to not get so attached to each layer as you build them.
